Background: AFGHANISTAN IS THE LARGEST PRODUCER IN THE WORLD (93%) OF THE DRUG OPIUM WHICH CONTRIBUTES LARGELY TO HIS GDP (Unofficially)!!
Well there are reports today out of Afghanistan that this year production of OPIUM will drop not because the war on illegal drugs has been effective, but because of MARKET ECONOMICS ! Here’s the deal, Farmers in Afghanistan are simply considering dropping and switching their opium plants with legal crops such as Wheat! Why is that?
Simply enough, because Food prices are currently at a high level, farmers now believe they can make more money selling wheat than opium ! So some farmers are just removing opium plants and replacing them with legal crops because of markets fluctuations.
Is that all it takes to end the Opium trade? I am not sure but all I can say is WOW you gotta love this Planet (^_^) Capitalism wins once again !
