MAJOR ECONOMIC NEWS from the PRESIDENCY of CAMEROON FOLLOWING the RECENT RIOTS !!
The President of the Republic of Cameroon, Paul Biya yesterday signed two decrees, the first increasing the monthly wages of state personnel and the second increasing houses allowances for state personnel. According to the first decree, State employees monthly salaries shall from the 1st of April 2008 witness be increased by 15%. The second decree signed by the President, raises housing allowance for State employees by 20% from 1st April 2008.
In Addition, two ordinances signed by the President reduces taxes and costume duties for some basic commodities. Hence forth, custom duties have been suspended on some imported basic commodities like fish, milk, rice, flour and wheat. Meanwhile, the custom duty on imported cement has been reduced.
